Purpose and scope
Caregivers take care of a group of children outside school time, providing a secure and happy environment where they can flourish and grow. They are responsible for securing the children’s physical, mental, emotional and social wellbeing and must create an environment in which Sahaja Yoga culture and values, as taught by Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, prevail. They are also in charge of certain housekeeping duties.
Key responsibilities
• Take responsibility for the daily care of a group of resident children outside school time: supervise during morning and evening routine and spend the night with them in the dorm.
• Supervise the children during weekend activities and contribute to planning and organizing these activities: walks, birthdays, outings etc.
• Know each of the children well and invest in building loving and respectful relationships with them and between them.
• Establish high standards for the children of dignity reflecting in discipline, attitude and care.
• Ensure that child protection and safeguarding of students are given high priority at all times.
• Provide feedback on the children’s wellbeing to the parents.
• Take up certain housekeeping duties: cleaning, laundry, etc …
Education & background specifications
Qualifications and experience
Caregivers should have a good general level of education. Experience in an educational context is an asset.
Knowledge and skills
Caregivers should have:
• the ability to build loving and respectful relationships with children, based on dignity and compassion
• a responsible and enthusiastic attitude and strong organisational skills
• the ability to work as a part of a team
• mental and emotional fortitude as the job can be demanding at times
• the desire to develop and apply their knowledge of Sahaja Yoga education
• a good working knowledge of English
